First Ever Daylight Footage of the Black Devil Fish (Seadevil Anglerfish) #ocean
The "black devil fish" refers to the black seadevil anglerfish (Melanocetus johnsonii), a deep-sea species known for its distinctive appearance and bioluminescent lure. Typically residing between 200 and 2,000 meters below the ocean's surface, these creatures are rarely observed in daylight.

In early February 2025, a remarkable event occurred when a black seadevil was filmed near the surface off the coast of Tenerife, Spain. This sighting, captured by marine photographer David Jara Boguñá during a shark research expedition, is believed to be the first live footage of this species in daylight.
