Asha is a 1957 film that become notable for having multiple scenes in colour. It used both the Gevacolour and Technicolor process. When viewing the movie, one can see that the Technicolour is still reasonably well-preserved. However, scenes processed in Gevacolour have unfortunately faded very badly with almost no colour left. One example of this is the male version of Eena Meena Deeka (the female version by Asha Bhosle on Vyjantimala having been filmed in Technicolour). Gevacolour was a cheaper process but faded much more quickly. Looking at the Shemaroo posting of this video, you can see a strange purple tint to the sides of the video. This is a result of majority of the colour fading and only a little bit of blue/red remaining. This is also why portions of the film in Gevacolour are very decomposed/damaged as compared to B&W or Technicolour scenes, because it also led to chemical decomposition. With the limited resources I have, I have tried to re-create what the colour could have looked like had it not faded, although the film is already in a horrible state so it may seem very flickery, but is definitely in higher quality then Shemaroo/Ultra postings. This was sourced from a portion of the movie posted by Ultra, which used an alternate reel of the film which was in far better condition and also featured the 3-strip Technicolour (rather than the 2-strip red and green version posted by Shemaroo before Ultra). The song from this posting was also in better condition than Shemaroo's reel, still retaining the blue in a recognisable state but unfortunately the rest of the colours had faded, but this version at least had some! This version also features a approx 2-sec missing clip (showing Vyjantimala's face) from the Shemaroo posting which was likely removed because it was either too damaged or lost. It also has far less scratches/film damage as compared to the Shemaroo version. It is definitely still not as good as it could be, and I hope that sometime in the future either Ultra or Shemaroo will work on the film like they have for some of their films very recently.
