What is stress and how music can help alleviate it?  
 
When stressed, the body does everything it can to react to the alarm state. A sensible mechanism, provided that the alarm state then goes away.  
 
"The absence of stress is death. Only the dead have no stress": you often hear this quote from the founder of modern stress research, Hans Seyle (1907-1982). It's a provocation, but it highlights how stress is part of life and also has its positive sides: it allows us to cope with difficulties and ensures moments of happiness, when we have made it. Scientists define eustress as positive stimuli. However, today in the foreground is distress, negative, that is, what "weighs". However, there is no objective unit to measure it: "Each person reacts to stress differently," says Aurélie Lattion of the association of scientists stressnetwork.ch. This subjective perception means that there are those who experience the challenge positively and those who feel overwhelmed in the same situation.  
 
Unchanged since time immemorial  
 
Since time immemorial, however, the effect of stress on the body has been the same for everyone: when it senses danger, the organism reflexively mobilizes all its forces to fight or flight. There are two mechanisms for this. The stress hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline are activated. Among other things, this causes breathing and heartbeat to speed up, blood pressure to rise and sensitivity to pain to decrease. If the danger is averted, the body calms down. If, on the other hand, a threat continues to exist, the body produces cortisol in a second phase, in order to remain ready to act. These mechanisms are sensible and do no harm, provided that the body returns to its normal state fairly quickly. In this sense, our ancestors were favored when they survived a dangerous situation. Escape or struggle was followed by phases of calm and regeneration.  
 
What stresses us today, such as performance or time pressure, the barrage of information, anger at work, no longer requires the use of the body. "In this way we remain with energy always ready to spring into action, often quite literally," explains the advice book "Stark gegen Stress" (Strong against Stress, Beobachter Edition). If self-regulation does not work and the alarm mode remains activated for too long, stress can become chronic, sometimes with serious health consequences.  
 
So we must find a way to "release" this extra energy generated within our body.  
 
One of the most effective ways is to meditate with stress relief music.  
 
We can all agree that daily life is increasingly busy, with stress and frenzy on the agenda and every now and then it is right to take a break: for this nothing better than listening to relaxing music.

Relaxing music: characteristics  
When we talk about relaxing music, we usually think of classical and new age music, often able to play a relaxing action for the mind and also for the body.  
 
In order to be defined as relaxing, a music must meet certain technical and compositional characteristics:  
 
tempo: must be around 60-80 beats per minute  
rhythm: constant, without sudden changes in sound or speed  
tonality: can vary within the song but without "abrupt" steps  
 
Nowadays, based on multiple experiments, research and theoretical works based on or related to experimental research, we can state that it has been scientifically proven that listening to relaxing music offers great cognitive, emotional and neurobiological benefits.
